Hail and Farewell

Sedeer el-Showk has been kind enough to allow me the honor of the first post on the new ISWA website, and the last duty of mine as ISWA’s official webmaster.  As of today, Sedeer will be handling all website issues and I will retire to the backroom newly adorned for retired sysops/cybrarians/webmasters.  I will be able to step in if or when Sedeer is unavailable, as webmaster emeritus.  Otherwise, I will simply be active as a member of the secretariat of ISWA.

When I took on the position back around 1998, ISWA had no particular internet presence.  Someone got us a domain name and a web hosting account and we had a beautiful abstract work of art…all white with nothing on it.  Back then, building web pages was easier than it is today.  All HTML, virtually no interactivity such as can be done with javascript and php scripting today.  I have to admit that as learned as I was back then, the internet got far and away from me and I am very glad that after quite a few years of ISWA begging for someone to update the site, we found Sedeer.  He has taught me quite a few things about WordPress such that now I am running two of my publishing websites using that platform!  But ISWA needs fresh minds and ideas and I am glad Sedeer is here and is able to take the hand-off of duties from me to him, and the future.

For those of you who have been supportive for lo this decade and more, I thank you with great gratitude.  For those who have complained about the website….well, I won’t go there.  For Sedeer, take good care of this place and help bring ISWA back to prominence as THE international science journalists organization on planet Earth.  Lord knows the planet needs it, and it has certainly lasted longer than any other comparable organization!

And, Sedeer, thank you for your support prior to this new website (and help with mine) over the past year plus, and for taking this on.  As they say on ships and starships, the con is yours.
